Wolf Cooktop Igniter Issues: What the Clicking Means

The clicking sound your Wolf cooktop makes when you turn a burner knob is the ignition system working. An electrode creates a spark near the burner, igniting the gas as it flows. When this system works properly, the click-click-click leads to ignition within a second or two, and the clicking stops.

Continuous clicking after the burner lights usually means moisture is present in the igniter switch assembly. This is common after boil-overs, heavy steam cooking, or on humid Chicago days. A burner that clicks continuously even when turned off indicates a stuck or shorted switch. This draws continuous power and can wear out the spark module prematurely.
